MRC Connect: Social Tenant Access to Information Requirements (STAIRs)

Audience: Member Responsible for Complaints

The Social Tenant Access to Information Requirements (STAIRs) policy is in effect from 1 October 2026. The policy statement, published by the Ministry for Housing, Communities, and Local Government (MHCLG) sets out what is required of private registered provider landlords and how they should handle STAIRs requests from tenants.

As the appointed complaints body for STAIRs, we have introduced a new complaints service and updated our Scheme to include how we will manage STAIRs complaints.

At this session, MHCLG join us to explain what MRCs need to know about STAIRs, how it impacts private registered providers and their tenants, and we set out our role and Scheme changes.

There will be an opportunity for a Q&A at the end of the session.

Please note: this webinar is intended for private registered providers only (typically housing associations). As the STAIRs policy applies only to PRPs, this session is not suitable for landlords that are not PRPs, such as local authority landlords.

Please note this event is for MRCs only.
