MRC Connect: Social Tenant Access to Information Requirements (STAIRs)

The Social Tenant Access to Information Requirements (STAIRs) policy is in effect from 1 October 2026. The policy statement, published by the Ministry for Housing, Communities, and Local Government (MHCLG) policy statement sets out what is required of PRPs and how they should handle STAIRs requests from tenants. As the appointed complaints body for STAIRs, we have introduced a new complaints service and updated our Scheme to include how we will manage STAIRs complaints.

At this session, STAIRs manager Lydia Florence will be joined by Courtney Jones from MHCLG to explain what MRCs need to know about STAIRs, how it impacts Private Registered Providers (PRPs) and their tenants, and set out our role and changes to our Scheme.

There will be an opportunity for a Q&A at the end of the session.

Please note: this webinar is intended for Private Registered Providers only (typically housing associations). As the STAIRs policy applies only to PRPs, this session isn’t suitable for landlords that are not PRPs, such as local authority landlords.

Please note this event is for MRCs only.
