Whistleblowing for social housing staff

The regulator is the prescribed person under the Public Interest Disclosure Act 1998 in relation to matters relating to registered providers of social housing.

 

The term whistleblowing is used to describe the actions of a worker who believes they are acting in the public interest by passing on information which may suggest certain types of wrongdoing. In passing on that information, they are making a disclosure. The wrongdoing will typically (although not necessarily) be something they have witnessed at work.

Since 2019 the regulator has been a prescribed person under the Public Interest Disclosure Act 1998 about matters relating to registered providers of social housing.

This means you must contact the Regulator of Social Housing and not the Housing Ombudsman to make a disclosure of this nature.
