All registered social landlords in England and other housing bodies belong to the Service on a mandatory basis, under the provisions of the 1996 Housing Act.
Landlords and management agents who are not in the mandatory jurisdiction of the Ombudsman may join the Service on a voluntary basis. For more information you may read or download our leaflet – see Relevant documents on the right – on voluntary membership, or ask for a hard copy from our office.
A member of the Service staff will be pleased to give a presentation to the directors, executive officers or other representatives of any landlord or agent who wish to consider membership.
See also Relevant documents for the Ombudsman's response to the government's consultation on the private rented sector following the Rugg review (Word file). Please contact us for any information about this.
